Privacy Policy
This document explains what MapStack collects, why we collect it, and the control you have over your information.
The Short Version
- We collect only what we need to run the app: your account info, the places and lists you create, and approximate location when you use location features.
- We do not sell your personal information.
- Sponsored placements are labeled as such. Sponsors do not receive your personal data.
- You can export or delete your data anytime by emailing info@mapstackapp.com.
- If you're in the EU, UK, or California, you have additional rights described below.
MapStack ("MapStack," "we," "us," or "our") is operated by Fanyi Consultants, LLC. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and share information when you use the MapStack mobile application and related websites (collectively, the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to this Policy.
Who This Policy Applies To
This Policy applies to everyone who uses MapStack. The Service is intended for users aged 17 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 17. If you believe a child under 17 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
| Category | What It Includes |
|---|---|
| Account Information | Your name, email address, and profile image — provided by Apple Sign-In or Google Sign-In when you create an account. We receive only what those services share with us. |
| User Content | The lists, places, photos, notes, and reviews you create in MapStack, along with who you follow and whose lists you save. |
| Location Data | Approximate or precise location, used only when you actively request location features (e.g., "places near me") and only with your permission. You can disable this in your device settings at any time. |
| Device & Usage Data | Device type, operating system, app version, crash logs, and anonymized usage analytics collected via Firebase and Google Analytics to help us diagnose bugs and improve the app. |
| Communications | Messages you send us (e.g., support emails) and your responses to surveys or feedback requests. |
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Operate, maintain, and improve the Service;
- Authenticate your account and keep it secure;
- Display your content to people you choose to share it with;
- Show you relevant places based on your location (when you request it);
- Communicate with you about updates, security issues, and changes to our policies;
- Analyze aggregated usage patterns to understand what's working and what isn't; and
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
Sponsored Placements
MapStack's business model is supported by sponsored placements — businesses that pay to have their location featured in relevant contexts within the app. Sponsored placements are always clearly labeled as "Sponsored."
Sponsors do not receive your personal information. They pay to appear in the app based on aggregated, non-identifying criteria (for example, category or region). We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with sponsors.
How We Share Information
We share personal information only in the following circumstances:
With other users
Content you mark as public (lists, profile, places) is visible to other MapStack users. Content you mark as private is not.
With service providers
We use trusted vendors to run the Service. These include Firebase and Google Cloud (hosting, authentication, analytics, and crash reporting), Apple (for Sign in with Apple), and Google Places (for location and place data). These providers are contractually bound to use your information only to provide services to us.
For legal reasons
We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, court order, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of MapStack, our users, or others.
In connection with a business transaction
If Fanyi Consultants, LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share personal information with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
How Long We Keep Your Data
We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or security reasons (for example, to prevent fraud or comply with tax obligations). Anonymized, aggregated data may be retained indefinitely.
Your Rights and Choices
You have the following rights regarding your personal information. To exercise any of them, email info@mapstackapp.com.
Everyone
- Access and export. Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction. Update inaccurate information directly in the app or by contacting us.
- Deletion. Delete your account and associated personal information.
- Location permissions. Revoke location access in your device settings at any time.
Users in the European Union, United Kingdom, and EEA (GDPR)
You additionally have the right to:
- Restrict or object to processing;
- Receive your data in a portable format;
- Withdraw consent at any time; and
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Our legal basis for processing your data is (i) performance of a contract (to provide you the Service), (ii) your consent (for location data and optional features), and (iii) our legitimate interests (to secure, maintain, and improve the Service).
Users in California (CCPA/CPRA)
You have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion, correct inaccurate information, and opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information as defined under the CCPA. You will not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
International Data Transfers
MapStack is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the U.S., your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the U.S. and other countries where our service providers operate. Where required by law (including for users in the EU/UK), we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent safeguards for these transfers.
Security
We use industry-standard safeguards — including encryption in transit (TLS), secure authentication, and access controls — to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by law.
Cookies and Similar Technologies
Our website uses minimal cookies — primarily for essential functionality and anonymized analytics. Our mobile app uses device identifiers and similar technologies provided by Firebase and Google Analytics. You can control these through your device privacy settings (Apple's App Tracking Transparency, Google's Ads ID reset).
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you in the app or by email before the changes take effect. The "Effective" date at the top of this Policy tells you when it was last updated.
